Cobb County maintain a strong commitment
to providing quality training to our personnel. In order to meet that
commitment, we
have designed a 26,000 square foot facility that offers excellent training programs

The facility consists of six
classrooms that accommodate approximately 200 students. A 154 seat auditorium
is contained within the facility, along with 2 additional padded rooms
that are utilized for defensive tactics and use of force training.
Specialized training areas on site include:
Judgmental Use of Force Training Simulator and a modern thirty-six station pneumatically
controlled firing range. An Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC)
is located nearby and offer current training on basic emergency vehicle
operations.
Our training facility also has a health
and fitness center that is staffed by an Exercise Physiologist and Fitness
Specialist. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art Cybex strength
training equipment, free weights, treadmills, stationary bicycles, StairMaster and
Versa-Climber. Our staff is available to provide assistance in developing
an individual work out program to strengthen your self confidence and
build your endurance.
The staff teaches various
wellness classes on an assortment of topics ranging from nutrition to
stress management.
Fitness incentive programs are offered throughout the year for
participants who exemplify physical fitness. As an employee, you will have
free access to Cobb County's Three
Aquatic Centers for lap and open
swimming.
As a Cobb County Police
Department recruit you will attend a 22 week comprehensive training
curriculum. You will receive a good foundation of knowledge, physical
fitness and police tactics. Your training will include seventeen weeks of
basic and advanced training at the Cobb Department of Public Safety Police
Academy.
On completion
of your basic and advanced training you will spend the next twelve (12)
weeks with a Field Training Officer. During this period you will train
on the day to day patrol functions of the department as it actually happens
on the street. You will be evaluated on a daily basis during this phase by the FTO.
Finally, over the last eight (8) weeks you will be evaluated on a weekly
basis by your shift supervision.
After completing the FTO phase you will then go to solo
status to complete your 18-month working test period.
