Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)
The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program is under the command of a
Lieutenant who reports directly to the Special Operations Unit Commander.
STEP is responsible for investigating all fatal traffic crashes,
enforcement of traffic laws in those areas which analysis indicates an
elevated amount of crashes, disregarding traffic laws, administration and
execution of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program, special security
details, and investigation of crashes involving Department vehicles when
requested.
Motorcycle (Motor) Unit
The Motorcycle Unit is supervised by a Sergeant. They are
responsible for investigating traffic complaint areas, Motor Carrier
Safety Assistance Program enforcement, extended traffic direction detail,
and police escorts.
Hit & Run Unit
Personnel in the Hit & Run Unit are sworn personnel who report directly to
the supervisor of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit. They are
responsible for the investigation of traffic crashes in which an involved
party fails to report the crash or leaves the scene of the crash.
Tactical (TAC) Team
The Tactical Team is under the command of a Lieutenant who reports
directly to the Special Operations Unit Commander. The Tactical Team
supports both the Detective and Uniform Bureaus. The team provides
directed patrols in high crime areas, high risk warrant service, and
surveillance of areas involved in violent crimes.
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Task Force
The DUI Task Force is under the command of a Sergeant who reports directly
to the Tactical Team Lieutenant. The DUI Task Force is responsible
for enforcement of laws governing Driving Under the Influence in
unincorporated Cobb County.
K-9 Unit
Personnel in the K-9 Unit are sworn personnel who report directly to the
supervisor of the Tactical Team. This unit supports both the
Detective Bureau and Uniform Bureau. The K-9 Unit is used for the
detection and apprehension of criminals, detection of contraband (bombs,
narcotics, guns, etc.), searches for lost children, and any other duty in
which the application of police canines deters criminal activity or
support the welfare of the community.
