The Cobb County Police Department is pleased to announce that it
has been awarded national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation
for Law Enforcement Agencies (C.A.L.E.A.),
Inc.
Chief George B.
Hatfield, Jr. received the award on behalf of the department at an
awards banquet held on March 19, 2005, in Birmingham, Alabama. In
2008 the department once again was awarded national accreditation.
C.A.L.E.A., formed in
1980 is affiliated with law enforcement’s leading organizations. These
organizations are: The International Association of Chief’s of
Police (I.A.C.P.), National Sheriff’s Association, (N.S.A.),
the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E.),
and the Police Executive Research Forum (P.E.R.F.).
C.A.L.E.A. accredits
agencies in the U.S., Canada, and Barbados. C.A.L.E.A. has established
446 standards for the practice of law enforcement. A law enforcement
agency must demonstrate that it is in compliance with these “best
practice” standards in order to receive accreditation.
This award demonstrates
the department’s commitment in providing outstanding law enforcement
services to our community. We are pleased to join the ranks of other
agencies in the metropolitan-Atlanta area, who have also received
accreditation by C.A.L.E.A.
